Lord Narasimha is the fiercest form of Lord Vishnu. He assumed this avatar in the Satyuga to eliminate a demon named Hiranyakashipu on the Chaturdashi Tithi, Vaishakha Shukla Paksha. Therefore, the day is also referred to as Narasimha Jayanti.Interestingly, Narasimha consists of Nara and Simha, where Nara means man and Simha means lion. And Lord Vishnu transformed into half-man-half-lion to negate the boon bestowed by Lord Brahma that guarded Hiranyakashipu against death either by an animal or a man. Therefore, on Narasimha Jayanti, devotees celebrate the triumph of good over evil.
